THE WORK

Portrait of Daniel Johnson, President, University of Toledo

This portrait of Dr. Johnson was completed at a time of great change at the University of Toledo. Before stepping down, the institution’s 12th president was instrumental in uniting the University with the Medical College of Ohio, which evolved into the University of Toledo Medical Center in 2006. Upon completion of the merger, the University became the third largest member of the University system in Ohio. To avoid the chaos at the University during this tumultuous time, Dr. Johnson posed in the library of the official presidential home away from the university’s campus. The portrait shows the president holding the book he authored entitled, Metropolitan Universities: an Emerging Model in American Higher Education published in 1995. Considered an expert on the subject, Dr. Johnson is now the Provost at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates.
