Leslie Adams to Present Lecture at Ohio Statehouse in Honor of National Arts and Humanities Month
Posted September 3, 2025
To honor the start of National Arts and Humanities Month, the Capital Square Review & Advisory Board will host “People, Stories, and Art: A Portrait of My Life and Work,” presented by Artist Leslie Adams. Join Adams on October 1, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. in the Ohio Statehouse Atrium (Columbus, Ohio) as she reveals the inspiration behind her portraits displayed at the Ohio Statehouse, contrasting the depiction of those and other distinguished leaders with the introspective nature of her monumental self-portraits. Experience her artistic journey—from her childhood at the Toledo Museum of Art to the influences shaping her work today—and discover the techniques that bring her portraits to life. This program is free and open to the public. Groups of ten or more are requested to please email tours@ohiostathouse.org to reserve seats.

In June 2025, Toledo School for the Arts (Ohio) presented its annual fundraising event and exhibition, UNDISCLOSED. For the event, over 100 national and local artists created and donated artworks on 12" x 12" panels, with their names undisclosed until after each artwork had been claimed by a ticket holder. At the UNDISCLOSED 2025 event, ticket holders received a number indicating the order in which attendees could claim an artwork, with ticket numbers 1-3 auctioned off at the beginning of the fundraiser. In recognition of this competitive honor, the artists of the 3 artworks to be claimed by these first 3 ticket holders were invited to return to The Portal at Toledo School for the Arts - Porter Gallery for a featured group exhibition, DISCLOSED 2025. Leslie Adams is among the top 3 selected artists, having contributed Dave Gierke and the Flying Pig, a charcoal portrait of a leading figure at Toledo School for the Arts and greatly respected contributor to the arts community. Adams will install a curated view of The Handwritten Dreams Project, including select previously highlighted pieces alongside never-before-exhibited works. Adams’ display in DISCLOSED will include a “Wall of Dreams,” an interactive element encouraging students and visitors to the gallery to reflect and share their own dreams. DISCLOSED will be on view in The Portal at TSA - Porter Gallery on October 3 for Toledo School for the Arts' "First Fridays" event at 9 a.m., and from October 7 – 25, 2025. A public reception will be held on October 10, from 6 – 8 p.m.
